About Us

Britney and I moved full time to our little gulch tucked into the Sapphire Mountains in about July 2020.  Our goal was to be a bit more self sustaining but more importantly, to live simply. It's been incredibly rewarding even through the struggles. The more we're here... the more we want to be here. That's where Gulch Works comes in.

We like to make cool shit. We like buying the tools to make cool shit. We have an abundance of natural resources around us to make cool shit. Makes sense to make cool shit for people right? After 10 years working a travel job (which took me away from the Gulch) I was ready for a change and Brit was more than ready to be her own boss. Gulch Works was born and we had ideas to do it differently.

We wanted to do something productive with the abundance of dead timber that surrounds us here. Many years ago a good chunk of the trees died after a bark beetle infestation. The Forest Service considers it a fire hazard and the large sawmills consider it junk wood for commercial lumber. We realized it's the perfect wood for unique wood/epoxy creations.

Everything we make goes from a dead tree here in the Gulch, to the finished product you hold in your hand. It's 100% Gulch made... and we do it *mostly with solar power. Here's the process...

We fall a tree (we use an electric chain saw charged from our solar panels). My neighbor saws it into slabs on his diesel sawmill. Brit and I then make that into something cool using all of our battery powered tools. We even power the CNC off our solar system. There are two tools we have to power with the generator for now but we are getting there.

Brit and I are pretty proud to produce products in a sustainable, individually made, delightfully imperfect, one of a kind way.

If you're looking for something unique you can't find in a store... you've found it.
